UnionConnect is a product of Prometheus Labor Communications. No venture capital. No investors. We are a dedicated team that answers to the locals we serve, hyper-focused on delivering powerful communication tools to the wider labor movement.
Our Story
In Greek mythology, Prometheus climbed Mount Olympus and stole fire from the gods to give to ordinary people. The gods wanted to keep that power for themselves. Prometheus believed everyone deserved it.
That is the idea behind our company. Prometheus Labor Communications built its first union website in 2000 and pioneered the use of open source content management software for labor organizations. In 2012, founder Steve Dondley, a former UFCW organizer and son of a union machinist, launched UnionConnect as the first mobile app built specifically for unions. Our objective is to deliver great technology to unions both large and small. We believe a 50-member local deserves the same firepower as a 50,000-member international.
Today, unions across America and Canada trust UnionConnect to keep their members connected, informed, and mobilized. We are a small, scrappy team. We answer the phone. We know your name. And we’ll be here serving the labor movement for at least another 25 years to come!

Steve Dondley
Founder & Owner
A US Navy submarine veteran and son of a union machinist. Started in the labor movement as a UFCW organizer in 1996. Founded Prometheus Labor Communications in 2005 and launched UnionConnect in 2012. Steve is the principal architect and lead developer of the platform. Former Recording Secretary of the Pioneer Valley AFL-CIO and former city councilor in Westfield, MA.
Sean Dondley
Lead Developer
Sean’s first job in high school was building websites for Prometheus and immediately demonstrated a strong aptitude for the work. After earning a Computer Science degree from UMass Amherst in 2025, he put his deeper understanding of software development skills back to work for the labor movement, focusing on the app. He now leads UnionConnect’s development and is taking the product to higher levels of sophistication and functionality.
